PAMTA is the local affiliate of the Illinois State Music Teachers Association and the Music Teachers National Association. The objective of this group is to Encourage and exchange of ideas in the field; to Enrich the love and understanding of music; and to Elevate the standards of teaching music by recognizing the experience, training, and challenge necessary for professional growth.



ISMTA Competitions has been changed to a single tier competition offered at 2 different locations, ISMTA Competition NORTH and ISMTA Competition SOUTH.

Both ISMTA Competition NORTH and ISMTA Competition SOUTH will be held in mid-late October,  within 3 weeks of the annual ISMTA Conference.

All first place winners at each division will be invited to perform at the Winners Recital during the ISMTA Conference.

Categories are:

  1. Elementary: ages 7-11 (Entry fee $30)
  2. Junior:   ages 11-14 (Entry fee $50)
  3. Senior:   ages 15-18 (Entry fee $60)
  4. Young Artist: ages 19-26 (Entry fee $75)

Currently, categories only include piano solo and piano duet.  ISMTA plans to include additional instrumental/voice categories in the future.
